There\u2019s a fence and a track down one side,
\nbut no way up this weedy incline.
\nAs I cut one, the leaves seem to laugh,
\nin just days there\u2019s no trace of my path.<\/p>\n

A strange cocktail awaits me outside:
\n\u201cWhy bother?\u201d their eyes seem to cry,
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve whipped and subdued it elsewhere.
\nShiny shelves are stacked high with our wares.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trophies high, trophies low,
\nthis is how to live you know

Because each drop of oil is blood,
\neach leaf in the mouth is a gallon of sweat.
\nEach drop of oil is blood,
\nthrough these rivers of earth
\nmy sisters and I met.<\/p>\n

\nits spirit seduced me with ease,
\nbut by day it holds fast \u2018gainst my hands,
\nand it steadfastly resists my plans.<\/p>\n

Naivety faithfully served,
\nmy demons compete with the birds
\n(\u201cWho are you to claim kin,
\nto atone for your sin?\u201d).
\nShould a worrisome conscience take heed?
\nOr is guilt just the earth\u2019s tax on greed?<\/p>\n
